Iqra School
Iqra Independent was established at Brixton Mosque in September 1994 Mashallah.
The founder-Headmistress sister Aisha Abdul-Malik (may Allaah have Mercy on her) initiated the launch of Iqra with the challenge of educating Muslim Children in predominantly non-muslim society, the School has as its dictum: 'Training for this life and the hereafter'
The whole community was saddened by her death six months after the opening of the school. However the school has striven to achieve this dictum.
Despite the school initially experiencing a number of recruitment and resource difficulties, renewed effort and commitment by the permission of Allaah Iqra Primary School became voluntary aided as of September 2008 and now consists of Reception and Years 1 - 6
The subjects currently taught are Quraan, Islamic Studies, Arabic, including national curiculum subjucts English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Art and Design Technology.
At present the School is near its capacity of 140 pupils and has dedicated staff of approximately 18.
Iqra Primary School aims to provide its pupils with an Islamic and secular education in an Islamic environment.
